Second Alarm by Lisa B. Kamps

Adam Price works hard, plays hard…and loves hard. The sexy firefighter has seen enough in life that he wants nothing more than escape when he’s away from the job. And what better way to escape than frequenting his favorite online hook-up group, where no emotion is required?

Beth Fuller has sworn off men thanks to her critical and controlling ex-boyfriend. One big problem—she misses the sex, even if she is convinced she’s no good at getting down and dirty. Seeking a solution to her sexual hang-ups, Beth turns to on-line dating and meets Adam, the one man who can unlock her passionate side.

But the no-strings-required encounters turn into something more each time Adam and Beth see each other. Emotion is a scary thing—scary enough to send Beth running away in an effort to save her heart before it’s too late, leaving Adam to face the biggest challenge of his life: walk away, or find the courage to chase after what he really wants, even if it means exposing his own weakness in the process.

Review by Christine:

Second Alarm by Lisa B. Kamps is the fifth installment in her Firehouse Fourteen series and can be read as a standalone. This is a story of two people who start off as a hookup and because of previous relationships don’t want a relationship until something changes. Adam Price has sworn off relationships due to a messy breakup and emotionally questions his self due to experiences in the past which seem to haunt him. Three hook up’s rule is what Adam stands by until Beth Fuller walks into the room and forces him to look at his choices. Beth’s last relationship is not something she ever wants to experience again. When introduced to online hookup sites, Beth sees the perfect opportunity to scratch an itch without commitment but emotions are a hard thing to keep out of the connection.

There is something special when you read Lisa’s novels that you don’t always get with other authors. Connection, Heat & Emotion in each and every one and Second Alarm did not disappoint. Each of our leads has baggage in their past that they keep from each other and needed to open up to let each other in. I felt Adam was to hard on himself and honestly swooned for him from the start. I’ve been a fan of this series for awhile now and I love seeing characters from past novels and seeing how their “lives” have changed and evolving. Fingers crossed we’ll see more of these amazing characters in the future! 5 Stars for Second Alarm by Lisa B. Kamps

Bio and Social Media Links:

Lisa B. Kamps is the author of the best-selling series The Baltimore Banners, featuring “hard-hitting, heart-melting hockey players” [USA Today], on and off the ice. Her Firehouse Fourteen series features hot and heroic firefighters who put more than their lives on the line. She’s introduced a whole new team of hot hockey players who play hard and love even harder in her newest series, The York Bombers.

In a previous life, she worked as a firefighter with the Baltimore County Fire Department then did a very brief (and not very successful) stint at bartending in east Baltimore, and finally served as the Director of Retail Operations for a busy Civil War non-profit.

Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons (who are mostly sorta-kinda out of the house), one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count. When she’s not busy writing or chasing animals, she’s cheering loudly for her favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals–or going through withdrawal and waiting for October to roll back around!
