Review by Susan:

This is the first book in the series series and also the authors debut novel, what a start it is! I was sucked in right from the start and spat out at the end, this story has it all that any good MC books should have, grit, danger, brotherhood and a sprinkling of drama. I loved both the main characters, both are a little bit broken but help each other put their pieces back together again. I liked the background characters, they helped to enhance the story and leave the reader wanting to know more about them. The story flows well, it has a few twists and turns that keep you turning the pages and keeps you on the edge of your seat right till the end.

This is a fabulous read, make sure you keep a few hours spare as when you start it you won’t want to stop!  5 Stars

Prologue
Juliet
Freedom. It was something I had seldom thought about…until
four years ago. I had taken for granted living life every day without looking
over my shoulder. Never feeling any real peace, a tiny part of me was always on
high alert. I feared that at any moment, I would be discovered. I had spent the
past four years trying to cope with intense, crippling anxiety, and everything
I had done was still no match against the nightmares that visited me often.
I thought fate would deal me a better hand. I believed I could
escape him. Now the effects of my mistakes had spread. I feared not only for my
life but also those of people I love who were put in danger because of me. I
was no longer free. Now, at twenty-seven years old, my time had run out.
My eyes began to open. I blinked slowly, trying to get them
to adjust to the darkness. I used my shoulder to wipe the dampness from my
face. Blackness cloaked the room, making it impossible to see anything around
me. The musty air blasting through the vent was frigid. My fingers and toes
were numb, making them hard to move. An intense headache competed with the
throbbing pain in my face. The tiniest bit of warmth against my back made me
aware of the body next to mine. I tried opening my mouth; the tape that had
sealed it shut had been removed. My lips felt swollen, and I tasted dried blood
on them. I nudged the body next to mine. I hoped that it was Paige, that they
hadn’t separated us.
A soft whisper came from my cracked lips. “Paigey…” I
croaked her childhood nickname.
Nothing.
“Paige, please answer me,” panicking, I whispered louder,
waiting for an answer.
A small groan escaped her as she moved just centimeters.
“Ana…” a low voice struggled to whisper back.
I let out the breath I was holding, relieved that hers was
the body next to mine. “Oh, Paige…” I leaned into her as close as I could, “I’m
so sorry you got dragged into this.” My voice hitched and my eyes welled, but
no tears came. Dehydration left nothing for my body to spare. We leaned into
each other. The friction caused my broken body to ache. “I will find a way to
get us out of here,” I promised her.
A door opened. It creaked loudly, breaking the silence.
Light streamed down the staircase. It was dim yet blinding in the blackness of
the basement. We both jumped and huddled our bodies even closer with our hands
tied behind our backs.
We stayed silent. The only sound came from the shoes that
clanked heavily down each step. The stairs moaned under the weight of the man.
A large shadow appeared, then the massive body that belonged to it. It was
him—the monster. The man with all the scars. The slight limp in his step gave
him away.
He turned on a small flashlight and aimed it around,
highlighting areas of the basement before finding us. The light so shocking
when it hit me, I squeezed my eyes shut. I could feel the tremors rolling off
Paige’s small body. God, please. Please
send someone to rescue us before it’s too late.
I had pushed away everyone
who cared; now there might be no one left who could save us.
With my eyes still closed I listened to the clicking of his
fancy shoes on the damp concrete as they got closer and closer. I braced myself
as the large body loomed over us.
Rage
Six months earlier…
I tucked my head down further behind the shield as I picked
up the pace. My bike pushed forward faster, anxiety building in my chest as I
passed the small road sign with the arrow: Sugar Maple 15 miles.
That little sign surged adrenaline through every part of my
body as I got closer to home. My bike sped through the warm night, covering the
distance as fast as possible. Miles of trees, bushes, and mountains were
blurred in my peripheral vision over the last five and a half hours until I
finally crossed Georgia from Tennessee.
The sound of my pipes cutting through the night was all that
filled my ears, the mountain air leaving a light mist on my partially exposed
face. I tried to stretch my back. I felt tight everywhere from not stopping.
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to grow up so I could leave this place. After
four long years of exile, I couldn’t get back fast enough.
It was Monday night—I was five days early. The idea of
surprising my brothers in the Stained Souls MC came to me last night when I
tossed and turned trying to sleep. Friday seemed too far away. At first light,
I packed my shit and left behind everything that couldn’t fit on my bike. I
knew my club brothers weren’t expecting me until the weekend so they could
throw me a huge homecoming bash. As much as that sounded great, I wanted some time
to reacquaint myself with my newly renovated hometown. Besides, I knew that the
party would leave me hungover for days, and that wasn’t how I wanted to start
my homecoming.
Last time I talked to Hawk, he said that the Stained Souls
were raking in cash with all the new people in town. The club owned several
buildings on the main strip, so naturally, they had done pretty well with the
renovations. I hadn’t decided, even with the influx of income, how I felt about
returning to a town full of strangers. I was once a well-known and feared man
in this town. Now I would be the stranger. The thought had my stomach turning.
My forearms tightened as the needle pushed further toward
one hundred on the desolate road. The blackness of night was the perfect
backdrop for the slideshow that was running in my head. All the people, places,
and friends I left behind…the good times with my brothers and the bad times
that destroyed my soul. I shouldn’t have wanted to go back. I should have
embraced my new life. But no matter how much darkness and anger Sugar Maple
triggered, it was still home.
I shook my head, clearing the thoughts. I focused on the
approaching glow of city lights that made the horizon over the mountain appear
bright compared to the inky sky that surrounded it. The May heat and humidity
created a haze blanketing the area.
I slowed my pace to almost a crawl just outside town. On the
hillside, the moon illuminated the bright white chapel and gave it an eerie
glow. It stood tall and menacing, overlooking the bridge into Sugar Maple. Its
angular windows, the way they looked down the hill to the town below, reminded
me of angry, judging eyes.
I tried to keep my eyes forward, but the small graveyard
pulled me to it. The decaying stones of the cemetery were almost as white as
the church. My eyes locked on a single headstone. I swallowed back the lump
that formed in my throat. Every fucking time I entered or left town, I was
forced to pass the painful reminder of what life took from me. I had said
goodbye to three people I loved standing under those tall maple trees, which
always seemed to mock me.

It began with a collision.

Not in the sense of souls colliding or even stars aligning, but in a real-life, totally her fault, bumpers-crunching, frames-bending, airbags-deploying crash.

Haley. Oh Haley.

Why was she such a mess?

And why did she have to be such a mess when it involved really expensive cars and really handsome men? She was an emergency room nurse. She was supposed to have it all together, to be cool under pressure, to be–

Not turned into a complete puddle of mush when it came to the man whose car she’d crunched.

But Sam was so . . . so nice and sweet and gorgeous and he made Haley’s brain just completely poof out of her skull. But Sam was also her past.

Or rather, her sister’s past.

She couldn’t be infatuated with the man who’d broken her sister’s heart. She couldn’t want him. It didn’t matter that a decade had passed. Plus, Sam had never noticed her before. Haley was the littlesister, the annoying tagalong. Sam wasn’t attracted to her and he neverwould be.

But what if that colliding of bumpers had finally knocked some sense into him?

What if he decided Haley wasn’t the annoying little sister anymore? And what if she gave into the temptation of all her long held fantasies?

Worse, what was Haley going to do if her sister found out?

Review by Susan:

This is the third book in the series but it’s the only one I have read, I don’t feel as if I missed out but I will go back and read the series from the beginning. This was a sweet, fun, light hearted read, that I read in one sitting.

The story follows Haley and Sam, fate brings them back together when a deer jumps in front of Haley’s car and Sam’s SUV hits her from behind. Sam was Haley’s sisters childhood boyfriend which Haley always had a crush on, now Sam is noticing just how grown up she is and Hayley is still drawn to Sam. The path to their happy ever after is not smooth with obstacles in the way for them to overcome, I loved both characters and they were a perfect fit for each other. I enjoyed this book, can’t wait to read the previous ones.  4 Stars

Review by Candy:

Nana has done it again! I love how she leads you into the story than bam! Easy to follow along with the anticipation of will they or won’t they. Nana creates great characters and the fact that supporting characters get to play in the story as well. The characters have chemistry as in the kind that makes you really believe in fate or love at first sight. Even though it ends on a cliffhanger it only makes you want to know what happens in the next book. A must read! Will always recommend a book by Nana! 4 Stars

One error in judgment. That is all it took.

They say don’t mix business with pleasure, but I fell in love with the client and now I’ve lost her.

But I would do it all over again if it meant keeping her safe.

Now I’ll have to fight like hell to earn her trust again. If I don’t, it could cost both of us everything.

Play to Win by Kelly Jamieson

He only plays to win…
Play to Win by Kelly Jamieson is now live!

Meet the Wynns—a hockey dynasty built on family, money, and drama. From USA Today bestselling author Kelly Jamieson, the first novel in a new series is a total win-win.“Kelly Jamieson is an auto-buy for me.”—Carly Phillips

After an injury forced Théo Wynn to give up professional hockey, he turned to his second love: numbers. Now, as the general manager of his grandfather’s NHL team, the Los Angeles Condors, Théo is dying to prove to the rest of his family—especially the brother who betrayed him—that he’s just as successful as the rest of them. If only Théo had a gorgeous woman on his arm to complete the picture. . . .

Lacey Olson needs to get out of Las Vegas right now, thanks to her no-good, crooked brother. When a handsome stranger who’s out partying with friends comes to her rescue in the cocktail lounge where she works, they strike up a conversation that leads to a crazy plan: her leaving with Théo for L.A. tomorrow. A few drinks later, the idea gets even crazier: a quickie marriage that works for both of them.

But back in California, Lacey immediately turns Théo’s precise, well-ordered life into one big beach party. And before long, she’s tempting him with her smart mouth, sexy body, and sunny charm. The last thing Théo needs is a real relationship to distract him. Because he only plays to win. . . .

Review by Susan:

This is the first book in a new series and what a start it is! The series follows the Wynn family, they are a large, loud family and are all connected to hockey in some way.

This story follows Theo and Lacey, Theo had a short career in the NHL but is now starting a new career as GM for his grandfathers hockey team, his last night in Vegas, he rescues a waitress from some thugs who her brother owes money to. After a few drinks they decide to help each other out, one fake marriage and they are off to California.

What starts out as a fake marriage soon morphs into something more, both try to fight their feelings but soon give in. Both jaded with life, can they let go of the past and give the marriage ago for real??

I really enjoyed this book, I read it in one sitting, there are a lot of Wynn family members which was a little confusing at first but I soon got into the story. Although it was a little cheesy the whole wedding in Vegas, I loved that we get to go along with them while getting to know each other and seeing their relationship blossom and bloom into something more. I liked both Theo and Lacey, at first it doesn’t seem like they would fit as a couple, they were perfect for each other.  This was an easy read with low angst, I can’t wait to read the next instalment from the Wynn family.  4 Stars

Game On by Kelly Jamieson

Game On by Kelly Jamieson is AVAILABLE NOW!

When the stakes are this high, it’s game on. . . .

“Kelly Jamieson is an auto-buy for me.”—New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips

Cam Brickley and his pro hockey teammates bet on everything: who can win five faceoffs in a row, who can do forty pushups in less than a minute, who can eat a ghost pepper without puking. But when his buddies bet him he can’t date the same woman—like, say, the hot blonde over at the bar—for two months and not fall in love, he’ll take that bet all day. Then he’ll laugh all the way to the hockey arena, where they’ll be washing his jock straps for the rest of the season, because Cam’s never giving up his bachelor lifestyle.

Olivia Lockwood, heiress to the Lockwood Industries fortune, is used to people using her for her money and family connections. When Cam Brickley hits on her in a club, Olivia’s first instinct is to brush him off. But he couldn’t be using her for her money, since he has more than enough of his own. Cam’s gorgeous and built, and it would be no hardship to go out with him . . . besides, he’d be the perfect spokesperson for the children’s charity she works with. Maybe it’s time for her to start using people.

Cam and Olivia are both in it for something. What they don’t know yet is that they’re playing for keeps.

Review by Susan:

This is the final book in the series and what an ending it is, I loved getting to catch up with characters from the previous books and seeing where they are now and a little glimpse of where they will be in the future.

This is Olivia and Cam’s story, it started out as a bet for him that he couldn’t date a woman for 2 month and not fall in love and some much needed publicity for Olivia’s children’s foundation. Where is the harm in having a few dates with a hunky hockey player? But what happens when emotions become involved? Can Cam keep his heart in check and not fall for the sweet, focused Olivia?

Although I’m sad this series is over I’m over the moon we will be getting a new series. I’ve loved every minute reading this series and will miss theses characters immensely.  4 Stars

Review by Susan:

This is the fifth and final book in the series, I do feel it could be read as a standalone, the couples from the previous books do feature but you don’t need to know their stories to enjoy this book. This is Justin or LT story, and I have to say it’s my favourite of the series. LT watches his friends find their happy ever after a and feels that not in the cards for him, after much persuasion from his sister he signs up for a pen friend while he’s deployed. Because is a widower and mother to an adorable daughter, she signs up to be a pen friend not expecting to find love, her husband was a marine, killed while on deployment. Can she open her heart again to another man in the military? Or will she walk away before giving him a chance as she’s scared of loosing him? You will have to read to find out!

I loved this book, it is a short read but I was hooked from the beginning and spat out at the end. I loved the letters and emails between LT and Becca, we get to see their relationship blossom and bloom over the course of the book. I loved how Becca was accepted by the other men’s women, how they took her under their wing and helped her to live again. I am sad to see the end of this series but it ended perfectly. 5 Stars

BLURB:

Justin
I originally joined the Navy as an escape, to become more than a country farm boy. Being a Navy SEAL turned me into a man, but one without a life outside the military. I thought that was all I needed. Until everyone around began to find their Happily Ever Afters’. I realized my life was missing love, something I’ve been longing for. All it took was one simple letter from home to remind me that everything I ever needed was right there waiting for me.

Becca
Losing the love of your life before he was able to meet his child was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through. I tried to move on with my life, and find a new sense of normalcy with my daughter and myself. One simple holiday act of kindness has set my carefully choreographed life into a tailspin. I could never have guessed writing a simple letter to a deployed sailor would bring us to a place we can finally call ‘Home’ again.

Can these two trust in the things they can not see to find true happiness?

Bad boy quarterback Tyler Harris plays ball for a living and breaks hearts for a hobby.

With two championships in as many years, Tyler is the best quarterback in the league. Gorgeous and rich, he’s at the top of his game. Women love him. Men want to be him. Only Tyler’s not feeling the love. In fact, he’s not feeling anything at all. Licking his wounds after a scandal and a breakup with his long-time girlfriend, he retreats to a run-down mansion on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest. Once there, Tyler is blindsided by the sassy redhead next door. He knows that he’s met his match and possibly his soulmate. There’s one problem. She despises him.

Lavender Mead has a good reason to dislike jocks, namely an absentee father who deserted the family to coach college football. Maybe that explains her penchant for bad boys — especially those who play ball. Her new neighbor seems just that type. Yet Tyler’s not the shallow superstar she expected, and she’s inexplicably drawn to football’s bad boy. The two are so hot together, they’re combustible.

As the clock ticks down, can they commit to each other forever? Or will they both fall short of the goal at the last minute?

Review by Susan:

Tyler has the world at his feet, money, fame and women but he’s just not feeling it. After a scandal and breaking up with his long term girlfriend, Tyler retreats to a remote island to lick his wounds and contemplate what to do next. Lavender should hate jocks, Tyler is everything she hates but she can’t keep away from him. Can Tyler break down lavenders barriers and show her not all jocks are the same? Can lavender give Tyler and love a chance? You will have to read to find out!

This was a fun and entertaining read, I loved the bickering and banter between Tyler and Lavender, the chemistry between the characters was off the charts. I loved that we get to see them both mature over the course of the book and see their barriers fall bit by bit. I read this book in one sitting, I was hooked from the start,  another wonderful read from this fabulous author.  4 Stars

Big Stick by Kelly Jamieson

Big Stick by Kelly Jamieson is available now!
“Kelly Jamieson is my go-to author for hockey romance.”—USA Today bestselling author Jami Davenport

A brooding hockey hunk learns to embrace life—and love—from a single mom who takes the world one puck at a time.Big move . . . Jodie’s motto is “Don’t wait for the perfect moment—take the moment and make it perfect.” And that’s just what she decides to do when she moves to Chicago with her two-year-old daughter. Now all Jodie needs is a place to live, and her best friend’s boyfriend has just the answer.

Big stick . . . Nick Balachov has zero interest in socializing, partying, or flirting right now. It’s not that he doesn’t like women. He loves them. It’s just that hockey, casual hookups, and hanging out at home are enough for him these days. Now Nick has a big problem—because the woman living in his empty coach house is a major distraction.

Big deal? The more Nick tries to keep his distance, the more Jodie needs him—around the house, that is. First he helps with the snowstorm, then the power outage. Nick even finds himself trying to impress her little girl. What the hell is wrong with him? Jodie represents everything Nick doesn’t want. But maybe she’s just what he needs. . . .

Review by Susan:

This is the seventh book in the series but it could be read as a standalone, this is Nick and Jodie’s story. Nick doesn’t make a great first impression when he meets Jodie, he’s standoffish, grumpy and miserable but life has been hard for him. Nick finds Jodie’s incessant chat aggravating but circumstance keeps putting her in Nicks path and what at first he found annoying, is now soothing to him, throw in a cute 2yr old and his once black heart is now beating again. Jodie is a single mother by choice, business owner, not used to relying on anyone but once she crosses paths with a hot hockey player she knows her life will never be the same.

There’s some ups and downs, strong emotions, romance and playoff beards that will keep you turning the pages. We get to catch up with previous couples and get a hint at who the next book will be about. This was another great read from this author, I totally devoured this book in one sitting, I loved both Nick and Jodie, it was great watching their relationship blossom and bloom and seeing Nick open his heart. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.  5 Stars!

Review by Susan:

This was my first read by this author and what an introduction it was! It is also the first of a new series and boy what a start it is! This book has everything you want from an MC read, brotherhood, loyalty, Backstabbing, twists and turns that you don’t see coming and also can you say hot?! Boy was it hot, it nearly melted my kindle, most of the scenes are NSFW so beware before you dive into it.

The story follows Lynch, who is the new president of the club after the death of his father, Zoe aka Candi, is new to MC life she just wants to knock something off her bucket list and boy what a way she does it!

Lynch certainly rocks her world, as the story unfolds, Lynch vows to stay away from Zoe but she’s under his skin and messing with his head, what’s a rough, tough, alpha male, mc pres to do?? You will have to read to find out!

This was a thrilling read from beginning to end, I was hooked and kept on the edge of my seat till the end. It was a great introduction to the Ravens Ruin MC, I can’t wait to read more about them.  5 Stars

A Change of Pace by Freya Barker

Title: A Change of Pace
Series: Northern Lights Collection
Stand alone
Author: Freya Barker
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 16, 2018

Once a man who lived by the letter of the law.

Newt Tobias will do anything for his little girl. Even take early retirement, sell his city home, and move to cottage country, hoping that the simpler life will provide a better balance for his troubled teenage daughter.

Yet, not long after they’ve settled, he finds himself toe-to-toe with a stubborn, fiery tempered woman with pretty brown eyes.

Once a recluse preferring to live alone.

Working with troubled adolescents, Frederique Marchand doesn’t suffer fools and won’t put up with bullies. Especially handsome strangers like Newt who think they can run roughshod over her. She loves her work, but on her own time she much prefers the company of her menagerie of animals.

But with the welfare of a teenager at stake, she must put aside rocky first impressions and work with a man who needs her as much as she’ll come to need him.

Review by Victoria:

This is one of those books I wish I had more than 5 stars to give. I had to talk myself into putting it down so that I didn’t finish it too quick!

Newt is your classic macho man. Retired from the Ottawa Police Force, he’s learning to juggle raising his daughter after her mother passed from cancer. Millie and Newt pack their lives up for a change of pace from big city to the all northern community around Parry Sound.
With their big move, Newt meets Freddy. Frederique, or Freddy as everyone knows her, has had her fair share of hard times in life but now helps the youth with Boulder the support dog by her side and a farm full of animals. She hasn’t had interest in creating a love life in years, even if the new comer is something delicious.
Newt and Freddy come together on a slow burning journey to finding out just how perfect they are for each other. Their love and strength together can help not only themselves but all those around them. I love this series for its honest view of how life in the small communities can be. Newt and Freddy develop not only their relationship but that of a community coming together when one of their own needs it. This is not only a story of a love growing but of how that love can grow an entire family around them.
This is a story you won’t want to miss, let Freddy and Newt show you just how far love can take you. 5 stars!
Review by Christine:
I’ve fallen in love again… Freya Barker has created another beautifully crafted tale of love and healing wrapped in the stunning setting of Cottage Country in Ontario, Canada.

If you enjoy a summer romance with strong characters and a bit of crime drama with a whole lot of heart this is the book for you. Actually this entire series of standalone non-connected stories are for you. This book deals with hard topics and sensitive issues with an impeccable level of skill that I find in each of the authors books.

A Change Of Pace is a must read of 2017 ~ 5 “Puppy Love” Stars!

“How was school?”

“Fine.” It’s the same answer Millie gave me yesterday and it doesn’t tell me anything. I read somewhere once that when a woman says ‘fine,’ it means she’s everything but.

“Anything exciting?” I try again, which earns me an eye-roll, and I turn my eyes back to the road.

“Actually,” she suddenly says, surprising me. “I met a dog today.”

“At school?” I’m confused; I didn’t know they let dogs in the school.

“Yeah. Dad, can we get a dog?”

“Wait. Is that even allowed? Bringing a dog into school?”

“I guess so. He’s some kind of service dog. But, Dad, can we have a dog?”

“What—like a Seeing Eye dog?”

“No, he belonged to a therapist visiting the school. So can we?”

“You saw a therapist?”

“It was just some kind of welcome thing they do with new kids.”

“That’s pretty neat.”

“Whatever, it wasn’t a big deal. Can we pick up a donut at Tim Hortons?” she asks, changing tracks at lightning speed. We’re coming up to Nobel and Timmies is just down the road. “I just really liked the dog. So?”

“Sure, we can.”

The screaming that follows almost has me running the damn Jeep off the road.

“Yes! Thanks so much, Dad,” she says with more enthusiasm than I’ve heard her express in the past four years. “Can we get one this weekend?”

Now I’m confused. Does she not want me to stop now?

“You want your donut this weekend?”

“Donut I want now.” She turns to me with big wide innocent eyes. “But we can shop for the dog this weekend?”

Wait. What?

Freya Barker inspires with her stories about ‘real’ people, perhaps less than perfect, each struggling to find their own slice of happy. She is the author of the Cedar Tree Series and the Portland, ME, novels.

Freya is the recipient of the RomCon “Reader’s Choice” Award for best first book, “Slim To None,” and is a finalist for the 2016 Kindle Book Awards for “From Dust”. She continues to spin story after story with an endless supply of bruised and dented characters, vying for attention!
