HIDE YOUR CRAZY by Lani Lynn Vale

I’m kind of a lady, but definitely more of a weirdo.
Hearing the woman at the table behind him say that to her friend should’ve turned Logan
Gibbs off.
It doesn’t. In all honesty, it only makes him listen harder.
He’s had enough weird in his life to last a lifetime. The last thing his complicated life needs is a woman in it who has no clue what color you get when you mix yellow and blue together.
Yet, her obvious blonde moments aren’t enough to deter him. Nor is her lack of finger-painting skills.
I’m a cop, not a miracle worker.
Hearing the man in the group behind her say that should’ve had Katy Roberts running
away as fast as her feet would carry her. Katy’s father’s a cop, and it’s hard enough
to live her life with Daddy trying to dictate her every move. She needs another
cop in her life like she needs yet another thing to go wrong.
To add onto that, she can’t find a job, has no love life to speak of, and has to
be the oldest known virgin in Kilgore, Texas.
Yet, when she sees his painting—a painting that resembles a piece of the male
anatomy more than the lighthouse they were supposed to be painting—she knows
that she has to give him a chance.
The very last thing the two of them expect is for her father and his boss to force
them to marry after an eensy-weensy accident. An accident that, surprisingly,
both of them want.

Review by Susan:

I’ve read a few books by this author but I have to say this is the best one yet! I love how you can relate to the characters and their flaws, it makes them seem more human, both the H and h are quirky but are unapologetic about it! I loved the humour and witty, flirty banter between Logan and Kate, the reader is given a front row view of them blossoming and blooming from friends to soul mates. Both have broken parts, but those bits fit perfectly together and make them whole. The story is not all roses and rainbows though, the story does cover some serious issues and that’s what makes the story more human and relate-able.

This was another fabulous read from this author, this is one of my favourite books so far this year!  5 Stars!

THE LYING HOURS by Sara Ney

ABRAHAM
DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD…
He’s a fixer
and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident “grandfather” on the
wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go
to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at
three in the morning–whether he likes it or not.
Abe’s
current mission is easy: mend his roommates broken heart by helping him find a
girlfriend on the LoveU app–without getting caught in the lie…
SKYLAR
GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.
Over her bad
grades. Over her meddling older brother and his two best friends. And over
dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys
gone?
She longs
for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch
effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.
On her worst
day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date).
On her best,
she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie.
On Thursday?
She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.
Skylar
Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.
Why?
BECAUSE ABE
DAVIS IS A LIAR.
Review by Susan:
I absolutely adore this author and this series, so I was over the moon that we got another installment and what a book it is! I consumed this book in one sitting, I laughed, cried and swooned while reading this, I loved Abe, though hated what he was doing for his friend I knew it would come back and bite him! Skylar was funny, sassy and just sarcastic enough! The banter between them was hilarious, I especially loved the interaction Skylar has with her roommate and BFF Hannah. I loved the little tease in the epilogue for the next book, I hope the author doesn’t make us wait too long for our next douche bag! Bravo, another fabulous read. 5 Stars

Review by Susan:

This is the first book in the series series and also the authors debut novel, what a start it is! I was sucked in right from the start and spat out at the end, this story has it all that any good MCC books should have, grit, danger, brotherhood and a sprinkling of drama. I loved both the main characters, both are a little bit broken but help each other put their pieces back together again. I liked the background characters, they helped to enhance the story and leave the reader wanting to know more about them. The story flows well, it has a few twists and turns that keep you turning the pages and keeps you on the edge of your seat right till the end.

This is a fabulous read, make sure you keep a few hours spare as when you start it you won’t want to stop! 5 Stars!

Prologue
Juliet
Freedom. It was something I had seldom thought about…until
four years ago. I had taken for granted living life every day without looking
over my shoulder. Never feeling any real peace, a tiny part of me was always on
high alert. I feared that at any moment, I would be discovered. I had spent the
past four years trying to cope with intense, crippling anxiety, and everything
I had done was still no match against the nightmares that visited me often.
I thought fate would deal me a better hand. I believed I could
escape him. Now the effects of my mistakes had spread. I feared not only for my
life but also those of people I love who were put in danger because of me. I
was no longer free. Now, at twenty-seven years old, my time had run out.
My eyes began to open. I blinked slowly, trying to get them
to adjust to the darkness. I used my shoulder to wipe the dampness from my
face. Blackness cloaked the room, making it impossible to see anything around
me. The musty air blasting through the vent was frigid. My fingers and toes
were numb, making them hard to move. An intense headache competed with the
throbbing pain in my face. The tiniest bit of warmth against my back made me
aware of the body next to mine. I tried opening my mouth; the tape that had
sealed it shut had been removed. My lips felt swollen, and I tasted dried blood
on them. I nudged the body next to mine. I hoped that it was Paige, that they
hadn’t separated us.
A soft whisper came from my cracked lips. “Paigey…” I
croaked her childhood nickname.
Nothing.
“Paige, please answer me,” panicking, I whispered louder,
waiting for an answer.
A small groan escaped her as she moved just centimeters.
“Ana…” a low voice struggled to whisper back.
I let out the breath I was holding, relieved that hers was
the body next to mine. “Oh, Paige…” I leaned into her as close as I could, “I’m
so sorry you got dragged into this.” My voice hitched and my eyes welled, but
no tears came. Dehydration left nothing for my body to spare. We leaned into
each other. The friction caused my broken body to ache. “I will find a way to
get us out of here,” I promised her.
A door opened. It creaked loudly, breaking the silence.
Light streamed down the staircase. It was dim yet blinding in the blackness of
the basement. We both jumped and huddled our bodies even closer with our hands
tied behind our backs.
We stayed silent. The only sound came from the shoes that
clanked heavily down each step. The stairs moaned under the weight of the man.
A large shadow appeared, then the massive body that belonged to it. It was
him—the monster. The man with all the scars. The slight limp in his step gave
him away.
He turned on a small flashlight and aimed it around,
highlighting areas of the basement before finding us. The light so shocking
when it hit me, I squeezed my eyes shut. I could feel the tremors rolling off
Paige’s small body. God, please. Please
send someone to rescue us before it’s too late.
I had pushed away everyone
who cared; now there might be no one left who could save us.
With my eyes still closed I listened to the clicking of his
fancy shoes on the damp concrete as they got closer and closer. I braced myself
as the large body loomed over us.
Rage
Six months earlier…
I tucked my head down further behind the shield as I picked
up the pace. My bike pushed forward faster, anxiety building in my chest as I
passed the small road sign with the arrow: Sugar Maple 15 miles.
That little sign surged adrenaline through every part of my
body as I got closer to home. My bike sped through the warm night, covering the
distance as fast as possible. Miles of trees, bushes, and mountains were
blurred in my peripheral vision over the last five and a half hours until I
finally crossed Georgia from Tennessee.
The sound of my pipes cutting through the night was all that
filled my ears, the mountain air leaving a light mist on my partially exposed
face. I tried to stretch my back. I felt tight everywhere from not stopping.
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to grow up so I could leave this place. After
four long years of exile, I couldn’t get back fast enough.
It was Monday night—I was five days early. The idea of
surprising my brothers in the Stained Souls MC came to me last night when I
tossed and turned trying to sleep. Friday seemed too far away. At first light,
I packed my shit and left behind everything that couldn’t fit on my bike. I
knew my club brothers weren’t expecting me until the weekend so they could
throw me a huge homecoming bash. As much as that sounded great, I wanted some time
to reacquaint myself with my newly renovated hometown. Besides, I knew that the
party would leave me hungover for days, and that wasn’t how I wanted to start
my homecoming.
Last time I talked to Hawk, he said that the Stained Souls
were raking in cash with all the new people in town. The club owned several
buildings on the main strip, so naturally, they had done pretty well with the
renovations. I hadn’t decided, even with the influx of income, how I felt about
returning to a town full of strangers. I was once a well-known and feared man
in this town. Now I would be the stranger. The thought had my stomach turning.
My forearms tightened as the needle pushed further toward
one hundred on the desolate road. The blackness of night was the perfect
backdrop for the slideshow that was running in my head. All the people, places,
and friends I left behind…the good times with my brothers and the bad times
that destroyed my soul. I shouldn’t have wanted to go back. I should have
embraced my new life. But no matter how much darkness and anger Sugar Maple
triggered, it was still home.
I shook my head, clearing the thoughts. I focused on the
approaching glow of city lights that made the horizon over the mountain appear
bright compared to the inky sky that surrounded it. The May heat and humidity
created a haze blanketing the area.
I slowed my pace to almost a crawl just outside town. On the
hillside, the moon illuminated the bright white chapel and gave it an eerie
glow. It stood tall and menacing, overlooking the bridge into Sugar Maple. Its
angular windows, the way they looked down the hill to the town below, reminded
me of angry, judging eyes.
I tried to keep my eyes forward, but the small graveyard
pulled me to it. The decaying stones of the cemetery were almost as white as
the church. My eyes locked on a single headstone. I swallowed back the lump
that formed in my throat. Every fucking time I entered or left town, I was
forced to pass the painful reminder of what life took from me. I had said
goodbye to three people I loved standing under those tall maple trees, which
always seemed to mock me.

Dorian Anson is my friend. She’s the only person who’s ever questioned my smiles. My jokes. The one liners that have our friends shaking their heads at me.
I’ve lived my life on those smiles. They never failed me, until her.
I wasn’t counting on her when I designed my front. I never imagined the possibility of someone like her coming into my life.

The wild hair, the kind smile and those eyes that see everything.

She was the girl with the beautiful soul, pretty face and whole heart. But hearts aren’t made to stay whole.

I watched hers break. I watched her tears fall. I watched as her world tilted on its axis and shattered at her feet.

This girl.

She sees me, all parts of me—the truths I try to hide, the secrets I bury. What’s mine and what’s not.

She sees it all, and I can only hope the truth isn’t too much. That she won’t walk away.

That she won’t leave me…alone.

We both have a past. We have ghosts. We have fears.

I’m hoping that somehow in the end, we’ll have each other too.

I’ve never needed anyone before her, and I know I’ll never want anyone else after her.

There is no one like her.

My pretty girl.

Dorian.

Review by Paula:
To sum up this book with one word I would say Beautiful. It’s a story about Dorian a single mom because her husband passed away but she’s a strong woman that loves her son so much. Jake is a funny, sweet guy who himself is struggling but when he’s around his friend Dorian the light just shines. Two people that are friends but want more but know it will just complicate things. Will they both come together and feel the light and love that surrounds them? Amazing story that made my heart swoon many times! 5/5 stars

Review by Susan:

This is the third book in the series, I didn’t realize that when I started reading this, I can’t wait to read them. This story was a short read, long enough to cover all the important parts but short enough to keep you interested, the story flows well and doesn’t feel rushed. This is Hawk and Sadie’s story, the attraction between them is instant and sparks fly from the first meeting. Sadie literally knocks Hawk’s socks off and has him hooked and begging for more, what happens when he finds out her secret? Will he forgive and forget?

MMA and forbidden love, what more can a girl ask for! Told in dual point of view, you get an in-depth view of the characters at each point of the story. There’s a couple of twists that keep you turning the pages, I loved the push and pull between the characters, it showed their vulnerable side that not many people see. Overall this was a sweet, hot read that leaves the reader feeling warm and squishy inside and begging for more! 5 Stars!

Meet Author Ker Dukey
I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bedtime stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active… I would want to change the script. I would watch films and think of ways they could have improved the story if they took another direction so I thought it best that I tell my own.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made of light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

-A reclusive rock star going through the motions-

Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn’t been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.

-A vivacious college student embracing life-

When outspoken and fun-loving Casey Caldwell was paired with the famously reserved musician for a friend’s wedding, she was prepared for the worst. What could they possibly have in common? She was a bubbly talker; he was a media-shy loner. His life was filled with music; she couldn’t carry a tune. She’d enjoyed a happy childhood; his was a well-publicized nightmare.

-Their worlds are about to collide-

Despite their obvious differences, Jake and Casey found each other, and her light balanced out his darkness. Would their love be strong enough to survive the weight of his tragic past?

Review by Susan:

This is a new to me author so I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book, I also don’t read a lot of rock star books but something in the blurb appealed to me so I gave it a go, I’m so pleased I did! I was drawn into the story from the first page and read it in one sitting, I loved the whole tortured rock-star thing and his backstory to why he acts the way he does is horrific. I loved the flirty, witty banter between Jake and Casey, I loved how she kept surprising him with her sense of humor! Although they fall into each other quite quick, i was totally invested in them as a couple and hoped that they would get their happy ever after, they were perfect for each other and are one of my favorite couples ever! There’s a lot of humor in this book but also some dark, hold your breath moments when Jake talks about his past, I also shed a few tears. I really enjoyed this book and I’m so pleased I gave it a go, so if tortured rock stars are your thing ( even if they are not) give this book a go, you won’t be disappointed.  4.5 Stars!

He has his health and a solid, fun-loving family to keep him grounded.

And he got the girl – the beautiful, quirky girl he’s just made his wife.

Yes, life is good. If only fate would stop screaming in his ear.

Lucky is the word to best describe Casey McKallister. Life is not just great… it’s amazing.

She has an awesome, devoted support system, a nerd’s dream job at a prestigious accounting firm, and, best of all, she’s married to the hottest rock star to ever roam the earth.

Yes, life is perfect… until it comes crashing down around her.

THE LEARNING HOURS by Sara Ney

He’s not a douchebag;

but that doesn’t stop his friends from

turning him into one.

MY FRIENDS WANT ME TO GET LAID.

So much so that they plastered my ugly mug all over campus, in bold printed letters:

Are you the lucky lady who’s going to break our roommate’s cherry?

Him: socially awkward man with average-sized penis looking for willing sexual partner. You: must have pulse. Text him at: 555-254-5551

The morons can’t even spell. And the texts I’ve been receiving are what wet dreams are made of. But I’m not like these douchebags, no matter how hard they try to turn me into one.

THIS ISN’T THE KIND OF ATTENTION I WANT.

One text stands out from hundreds. One number I can’t bring myself to block. She seems different. Hotter, even in black and white.

However, after seeing her in person, I know she’s not the girl for me. But my friends won’t let up—they just don’t get it. Douchebags or not, there’s one thing they’ll never understand: GIRLS DON’T WANT ME.

Especially her.

Review by Susan:

OMG, Sara does it again! This book is the perfect read, it’s got a fun, flirty, beautiful heroine and a hot, douchebag wrestler. It’s full of hilarious, witty, flirty banter between the two and some panty melting sexy times! I won’t say anything about the story, the reader needs to experience it for themselves and also the reveal of who the douchebag is! What I will say is this book is a bit different to the first two, but in a great way. I flipping loved the hero, he was so swoon worthy, adorable  and my favorite so far! The heroine was so perfect for him, she pushed him out of his comfort zone and held his hand while doing so. I read this book in one sitting and had a stupid grin on my face while doing so! For fans of this author, this is a must read, if you have not read anything by this author, what are you waiting for? Do yourself a favor and one click today! You won’t be disappointed. 5 Stars

He’s seated at a table in the far corner when I spot him from the door. He’s not hard to miss—not with his purple t-shirt in a sea of black and yellow, and wavy mussed hair.

He’s slouching, hunched over his table.

Defeated. Tired.

My stomach rolls with nerves, nerves that have me rooted to the spot in the doorway, watching him.
Just watching.

For the entire four minutes I stand here, he sits immobile, studying his laptop, eyes moving along the screen, completely transfixed by whatever he’s reading.

Learning.

“Just go over there,” I whisper to myself, blowing out a puff of pent-up air.

I put one foot in front of the other and begin toward him, spine ramrod straight, steeling myself, prepared for another argument.

Twenty feet.

Fifteen.

Eight.

Two.

“Hi.”

No reply.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” I lay my hand on the back of the wooden chair across from him, intending to pull it out.

He stiffens but doesn’t lift his head. “Yes I mind.”

“Would you mind if I sat at the table next to you?” I’m pushing his buttons, looking for a reaction, but he only spares me a brief glance.

Shrugs. “Free country.”

I bite my lip to hide a smile, glad he didn’t tell me to take a hike…

The sultry voice.
The sweetness under her armor.
Everything about her captivates me. The surge of energy we

something dark underneath her bright smile.
Unable to resist the desire toward her, I break my rules
giving her all of me while expecting all of her.
Review by Christine:
All of You All of Me by Claudia Burgoa is an emotional tale of love and loss between two broken souls. We were first introduced to Willow & Hudson in Claudia’s short story “How We Met” in the Love Happens anthology and now we follow their journey.

Both Willow & Hudson have their struggles and I was so happy that this wasn’t a cookie cutter romance where they heal each other just by being together. Gut-wrenching, poetic and beautifully imperfect but leaving me wanting more of these broken characters trying to find a path. The supporting characters are just as strong and I hope we get to see more of their stories in the future. Claudia has created a beautiful non-traditional original romance that I won’t soon forget. 5 Big Apple Stars for All of You All of Me by Claudia Burgoa

Review by Paula:

Evan and Carys have loved each other for a very long time and then Evan brakes up with Caryn and disappears. This book we get flash backs of now and then of  there relationship. Evan is back and now ready to prove to Caryn she is his one and only. Caryn has moved on but will she give up it all to have Evan back? Lots of secrets and very intense moments that keep you turning the page wanting more. I loved Evan how much he has loved Caryn and devoted his life pretty much to her even from afar. Caryn I had love/ hate relationship with her. One min I liked her next she was just getting on my nerves with the Greg thing. A really good second chance romance! 4 Stars

Excerpt
“Evan, I want to know what happened, but I have a life now and you need to know…” She trails off, her eyes darting away from mine.“What?”

Gazing up at me, she continues, “Whatever you have to say, it’s not going to change a thing. We’re over.”

My heart twists and breathing becomes difficult. Mother fuck, her words cut deep, hurting even though they aren’t true. Sure, she believes them on some level—she had to, in order to get through what I did. Yet, along with the hurt and disappointment swimming in her eyes, there’s also tenderness and love.

“Tell me you’re happy and I’ll walk away.”

We always pushed each other, challenged the other to face our fears, to be honest with ourselves, with each other. I need to hear her say it. I don’t believe it, but if she is over me, I need to hear it in her voice and see it in her face—not because I want to, but because it’s the only way I can even begin to accept that we’re over. Even then, it’s not possible.

“I’m happy.” Her tone is laden with bravado, but no true emotion. Even her gaze, which never wavers from mine, is flat.

Shaking my head, I briefly cast my eyes downward to suppress my smile. “No, you’re not.”

“Van.” I flinch at that fucking name.

As a child, I thought it was so fucking cool to have a nickname that only my best friends would call me. Now, hearing “Van” from her pretty lips, I want to obliterate the word from her vocabulary, fucking kiss the word out of her.

“You can call me asshole for all I care, you’re not happy,” I retort in frustration. Catching my tone, I breathe deeply and loosen my fists to relax. “Don’t lie to me, and most of all, don’t lie to yourself.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. You want to see what you want. I’m with Greg, and we’re happy.”

She grimaces infinitesimally, then averts her eyes from me. Unable to read her, I’m not sure if it’s because she means it and doesn’t want to hurt my feelings or if the lie tastes nasty in her mouth.

“Sweetness, I know everything there is to know about you, without apology. You can’t lie to me.”
