Memphis by Ginger Scott

We’re celebrating the release of Memphis by Ginger Scott! Check out the excerpt below!
Memphis by Ginger Scott

Blurb:

My mom always said it was just something about the way he moved.

The same swagger Archie Valentine wore in the ring when he took his opponents down followed him like a halo everywhere he went. But make no mistake about it—he was no angel. He was like a drug. My mother was his addict.I never understood it…how love could make you blind and convince you to drink the poison. Not until I met Memphis Delaney.

At first, it was the familiar form. He’s a fighter, built like a god from the past, the kind of man the universe doesn’t make anymore. His eyes hide a story, and every time I’m in his presence I want to keep reading him until I get to the end. And then…there’s the way he moves. His boxing is violent but beautiful, and his body is a seductive weapon. When he’s in the ring, he wears the stare of a man committed to the battle until his very last breath.

He could end me; turn me into her. Too much of him will leave me as a shadow, and I’ve lost so much of myself already.

But I have discipline. It came the hard way. Lessons learned, scars left behind, and trust stripped away from life.

I will breathe his air, but I won’t fall for a man like him. The only boxer who’s ever going to break my heart is the one who gave me my name.

EXCERPT:

I turn so our feet are squared and glance at his home that I think he probably knows I went through while he was gone. Somehow the money he paid for it seems not enough and too much all at once. My gaze shifts back to his, and he steps forward until the toe of his left shoe rests against the right side of mine.

“That’s a nice story, Memphis. I’m glad you found the bike, but I’m not sure what that has to do with me,” I say, my breath catching as his fingertips trace along my jaw, his touch so faint I find myself leaning my head to encourage his palm to rest along my cheek more boldly.

He brings his other hand up with more confidence, and I’m caught. The other option I had, to walk away, is gone. I never really wanted it, though.

Memphis dips his chin, hunching slightly to bring his eyes in line with mine. We’re so close that I can feel the tickle of his breath against my lips, and they tingle at the familiar. Each experience with him weaves itself into my heart in this way that terrifies me. This is how people lose themselves.

But I let it in—each breath, each sound, the smells and words. His story. I am surviving on the very being of him, and I think I have been for a while now.

“I was eighteen when I tracked down that bike. I knew it was mine…”

“I don’t belong to you, Memphis,” I cut in, my heart pounding.

His mouth forms a crooked smile. He holds my eyes hostage in silence for few long seconds. “Maybe it works the other way,” he says, his eyes moving over my face with a softness that feels intimate and vulnerable. His forehead falls forward until it rests gently on my own, and I let go of the grip I have on myself, exchanging it for fistfuls of his T-shirt. My knuckles run along his chest as I gather the material and close my eyes, his muscles hard from discipline.

“I can’t watch you get hurt. I can’t…”

His hand moves to my chin, and he lifts it until our eyes meet. Suddenly, breathing just got a lot harder to do.

“I won’t lose, Liv. I work too hard, and I study too much, and I will never be in a ring I’m not supposed to be in,” he says, and I breathe out what sounds like a laugh but feels like hurt.

“My fifty-year-old uncle kicked your ass in some display of alpha-male, teacher-student bullshit. I couldn’t watch that…how am I supposed to watch you step in with some guy who really wants to kill you? How am I supposed to kiss you knowing that your lips might never be the same after a fight. How…”

Memphis’s mouth takes mine before I can protest anymore, nothing like our stolen moment from earlier. His hands cup my face and his mouth moves possessively over my bottom lip, sucking it in and letting it slide loose through a graze of his teeth. He turns my head with a gentle nudge and kisses me deeper, and his hands fall from my face in long, possessive drags down my shoulders to my waist, stopping with his thumbs just above my hips and his fingers splayed out around my sides.

My hands roam up his chest and neck until my thumbs run along the roughness of his chin, and my touch seems to somehow make him hungrier.

“My god.” He breathes the words against my lips, restraint giving way…

Review by Susan:

Wow, ginger Scott does it again, I flipping loved this book! I was hooked from the first page and held on till I was kicked out at the end, although there is an instant attraction between Memphis and Olivia, there’s a delicious slow burn between them. When they do get together, they are so sizzling hot my kindle nearly melted! As with previous books the author sucks you into the story and weaves an amazing web so that you don’t see half the things coming your way until they smack you in the face. This is more than just another sport romance, it has so many layers that it leaves the reader feeling a little bit raw by the end but also full of feels and a believer in true love and fairy tale endings. All of the characters leave a bit of an imprint on your soul, some for good reasons, the others for bad. This is another amazing read from this author, wish I could give more than 5 stars.

About the Author:

Ginger Scott is an Amazon-bestselling and Goodreads Choice Award-nominated author of several young and new adult romances, including Waiting on the Sidelines, Going Long, Blindness, How We Deal With Gravity, This Is Falling, You and Everything After, The Girl I Was Before, Wild Reckless, Wicked Restless, In Your Dreams, The Hard Count, Hold My Breath, A Boy Like You and A Girl Like Me.

A sucker for a good romance, Ginger’s other passion is sports, and she often blends the two in her stories. (She’s also a sucker for a hot quarterback, catcher, pitcher, point guard…the list goes on.) Ginger has been writing and editing for newspapers, magazines and blogs for more than 15 years. She has told the stories of Olympians, politicians, actors, scientists, cowboys, criminals and towns. For more on her and her work, visit her website at http://www.littlemisswrite.com.

about to get it.
Johnny Outlaw, rock legend and lead singer of
The Resistance, is here to watch us play. But he’s not the only familiar face
in the crowd—killer little body, heart-shaped face, and drop-dead gorgeous.
Hannah Nichols sitting at the bar makes it
hard to concentrate, sparks already reigniting. The beauty was never a groupie
and tonight she’s not here to catch our show. She came to drop a bomb. “You
have a son.”
She underestimated me. I’ll prove to my son, and
her
, that I can be the dad he needs.
What is it about musicians? Why are they so damn
sexy?
My heart was Jet Crow’s the moment he opened
his sexy mouth and sang that first song. One stolen night with that man would
never be enough, but I’m not here to fall into his bed. Again. I’m here
to fight for custody of a son he’s never known.

Excerpt

Jet Crow
Subtle
scents of cinnamon mix with the taste of whiskey on her skin. I lick her from
collarbone to the back of her ear, her moans enticing me to take more than a
gentle share of what I want.
I’m well
past hooking up with groupies, but something drew me to the beautiful brunette.
Under the bright spotlight of that stage, my eyes found hers as I sang about
finding the missing piece of me. Maybe it was the way she pretended to not
care, catching my eyes and then turning away as if she was too shy to come speak
to me, but too good to be bothered. It didn’t matter. I was already caught up
in her as much as she was caught up in me.
The set
ended and I made my way over to the mystery woman, the one who hid in the dark
of the bar just as two shots were served. I took the shot of Fireball and then
took her home shortly after.
Fuck. She feels good.
Hard little
body, but soft in all the right places. Tits that fill my large hands and legs
that spread enough for me to squeeze between her thighs. I bet she wouldn’t reach
my shoulders in heels. Speaking of, “Keep them on.”
I like the
feel of the leather against my lower back, the hard heel scraping across my
skin when she tries to power play me by tightening around my waist and pulling
me closer. I didn’t ask her to my bedroom. I didn’t have a chance. What started
out as laughing while we shared a two a.m. snack of Cheetos, hummus, and
whiskey turned into me eating her as a snack on top of my kitchen counter. I
don’t ever do that with a one-nighter, but damn if she didn’t make me want to
break more rules with her.
She kisses
me like a woman in need of water, taking as much as she wants while pressing
her heels into my ass. The heat between us emanates until I’m dragging my shirt
off to try to cool down.
I knew she
was different the moment she opened her mouth back at the bar. “You sing rock
with so much soul. Who hurt you?”
“No one
gets close enough to do me any harm.”
“That’s a
pity.”
“It’s a
pity I’ve never been hurt?”
“No, it’s a
pity you’ve never loved anyone enough to get hurt.”
My heart
started beating for what felt like the first time as I looked into her sultry
eyes. I could blame the booze, but I can’t lie to myself. She had me thinking
twice on things I never considered once before.
Who was this woman?
Even with
our stomachs full, we weren’t satisfied. She dragged me by the belt down the
hall to my bedroom. Her clothes were off and mine quickly followed before we
tumbled into bed.
Fast. I want to fuck her fast and hard, but every
time our eyes connect there’s such sadness found in her grays that I slow down.
Wanting her to hold contact, I cup her cheek. “Hannah?”
Her eyes
slowly open, the long lashes framing the lust I find between them. “What?” she
asks between heavy breaths.
“Are you
okay?”
“I’m good.”
“Just
making sure.”
She runs
her hands up my neck and into the back of my hair. “I’m sure.” Pulling me down
to her, our mouths are just a few inches apart when she whispers, “I want you. I
want to do this.”
Shy isn’t
something I’d call her considering we were in my bed two hours after meeting. I
like a woman who knows what she wants. Hannah knows. And fuck if it isn’t a
turn on that she wants me.

He was
an artist. She was his muse.
To everyone in town, Abel Adams was the devil’s spawn, a boy who never should
have been born. A monster.

To twelve year-old Evie Hart, he was just a boy with golden hair, soft t-shirts
and a camera. A boy who loved taking her picture and sneaking her chocolates
before dinner. A boy who made her feel special.

Despite her family’s warnings, she loved him in secret for six years. They met
in empty classrooms and kissed in darkened church closets. Until they couldn’t.

Until the time came to choose between love and family, and Evie chose Abel.

Because their love was worth the risk. Their love was the stuff of legend.

But the thing about legends is that they are cautionary tales. They are made of
choices and mistakes. And for Abel and Evie, the artist and the muse, those
mistakes come in the form of lights, camera, sex.

Review by Candy:
This has a taboo subject to start but a coming of age story about Evie and Abel. A great read!
Abel was born of taboo and labeled from the love of his parents. Evie was a girl that saw Abel for who he was, just a boy.
As they grew their love was all they knew and cared about. One night it all came crashing down and Evie was given a choice but she didn’t need the choice she had already chosen Abel.
This story kind of reminded me of Romeo and Juliet, a bit forbidden but in the end love will conquer except that Romeo and Juliet didn’t survive but Evie and Abel do.
Saffron this was a tear jerking but heart felt with a message behind it. Your writing flowed and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I like how you had Evie tell most of the story then let Abel have a voice. One must read this story to find their own words to describe because it was that good and words are failing me now. Saffron keep up the fantastic job of writing you do, because I will be looking for more of you to read.  5 Stars

of bad romances. Aspiring Lana Del Rey of the Book World.
Saffron is a big believer in love (obviously). She believes in happily ever
after, the butterflies and the tingling. But she also believes in edgy, rough
and gutsy kind of love. She believes in pushing the boundaries, darker
(sometimes morally ambiguous) emotions and imperfections.

The kind of love she writes about is flawed just like her characters. And she
hopes by the end of it, you’ll come to root for them just as much as she does.
Because love, no matter where it comes from, is always pure and beautiful.

Review by Susan:

This is the fourth book in this series but it could be read as a standalone, I love this series so I couldn’t wait to jump into this story, it doesn’t disappoint. I was hooked from the first page, I read it in one sitting, I literally couldn’t put this book down. The author has a way of drawing the reader in, the story is not rushed, it flows beautifully and leaves the reader wanting more. I loved Liam and Lachlan, they are both married to their careers, but they each see something in the other that makes them stop and notice the other. Liam is hiding who he truly is, having been blackmailed, he’s trying to keep his head down and out of trouble, but from the first meeting, he’s hooked on Lachlan. Lachlan is out and proud, he’s instantly attracted to Liam but doesn’t want to have to hide away, he gives Liam an ultimatum, will Liam be open about who he is? Will he walk away from Lachlan? Will Lachlan wait for him? You will have to read to find out!!

I was totally invested in these as a couple and was rooting for them to get their happy ever after, I’m pleased we got a small glimpse of past characters I loved catching up with them! This is a wonderful series, you don’t have to like rugby to fall in love with these characters, please give this series a go, you won’t be disappointed.  5 Stars
